I need a new dryer!

I have had my beloved Select Pro Gold soft bonnet dryer for a little over a year. I use it pretty frequently about once a week and at times even more. I purchased this dryer because it was supposedly the best soft bonnet dryer on the market. So it was really disappointing to see if not last the test of time! We have been through good and bad but my little dryer has finally gotten on its last legs. The first thing to come off was the attachment where the hose connected to the hood. This was not too...

Why sectioning your hair is important

I always section my hair in four parts, whether it be for detangling, washing, styling or whatever. When I was fully rexlaxed, I was able to get away with washing in 2 sections. I thought since my hair has been so compliant, it would be ok to try to cut corners in my regimen. Boy, did I get a wakeup call! I shampooed my hair with a sulfate free shampoo in 2 large sections. Also I made sure to be as thorough as it was all said and done, my hair looked and felt clean. I thought: “Hey...

My new ultrasonic infrared iron!

A few weeks ago I received my infrared ultrasonic iron in the mail. I ordered directly from the manufacturer and because of this I was able to buy one at a fraction of the regular price. Since it was a sample order (the manufacturer usually ships in bulk) it is plain and has the generic “ultra and infra” on the LCD screen. Otherwise, it still has all of the functions that the brand name ones do plus it has adjustable settings! If you don’t know about this iron, check out my previous post about Ultrasonic Infrared Irons. So far...

Checking up on my curls at 11 months

So I haven’t seen my actual curl pattern in roughly 3 months! I’ve been wearing it straightened or in roller sets, not even bothering to check out the curls during wash day! I decided it was time to see if my curls were still healthy and intact after being straight for so long. When ever I use direct heat, I make sure to do a reconstructive protien treatment to make sure the curls snap back to normal. I wasn’t exactly sure if this was actually working though, because I haven’t actually worn it in its curly/wavy state. This week...

Salvaging a Bad Flat Ironing Session

This week I decided to try a new flat ironing cream from L’oreals new smooth intense line. I was left with VERY unexpected result : greasy ends and puffy roots. It looked as if I haven’t washed my hair in ages, even though I had just washed my hair! This is really upsetting, given the fact I had spent so much time trying to straighten my hair in the first place! I was ready to re wash my hair and just deal with my crazy transitioning hair! Instead, I decided to work with what I had and revive this...

Smooth Rollersetting on Natural / Transitioning hair

Magnetic Rollers are tricky to get the hang of! Even though they are called “magnetic” its hard to get the hair to grip on the roller. After many attempts I was able to to figure out how to keep them on my head. Even so, they were loose and my hair would frizz out of them! By the time they were dried I would have silky smooth ends with plenty of Africa at the roots. NOT the look I’m going for! After honing in my techniques using mesh rollers, I decided to apply the idea to using magnetic rollers....

Pravana Perfection SmoothOut Treatment

Pravana has been one of the top contenders in the professional hair care market. I was really excited that they had come out with a hair smoothing system called Perfection Smooth out. It was formaldehyde free and claimed to “virtually alters the internal textural memory of the hair fiber to transform it to a smoother, frizz-free #8221; That “virtually alters” claim made me raise my eye brow a quite a bit so I did a little research on it before I decided to try it out. I could barely find reviews on it but the few I did said...
