Progress Pudding: September ’14

Hey everybody! I just want to quickly update the progress my hair has made over the last few months. Its not much however but every inch counts! I’ve never had long natural hair, even as a child. A part of me thinks that long hair is genetic. I have been working so hard with my hair and I don’t see much progress. Perhaps I need to make a new regimen… Here is my hair from December 2013. The ends suck and I did a poor job of straightening. I also had a lot of layers in this picture. Here...

End of the year progress

This year I started off with just a few inches of new growth. I am really pleased on how much length I was able to retain this year! After I Big Chopped my hair I only had about 5 inches of growth. It was so short! Now at the end of the year I have about 8-9 inches of hair and I’m really pleased! It starting to feel long already! Around the early part of the year I got my transitioning hair cut into a shoulder length inverted bob. Now at the end of the year my hair has...

Straightening and Length Check

I decided in the middle of a heat wave it would be the perfect time to straighten my hair! I was so anxious to see my hair straight that I ignored all of my gut instincts and went ahead and straightened the whole thing! As it turns out I’m Shoulder Length! Yay! Not to shabby for just a little over a years worth of growth. I shampooed, conditioned, blowdried and flat ironed my hair. I used a mix of Arosci and Kismera products.(reviews coming soon) My hair as straight but it still started to poof up(mainly at the roots) because...

Coil method for the Big Chop

Many people seem to have difficulty when it comes to the day when its time to do the Big Chop. depending on how processed the hair is it can be really hard to tell where the line of demarcation is. At the same time I wanted to be able to keep as much length as possible. Because of this dillema I created a method of big chopping that helps me to keep maximum length when doing the big chop. I’ve done it before and this time I took some pics! It is really simple to do! First cover your...

Curl settling after BC with Ultrasonic Iron

I thought it was interesting just to see how much my hair has transformed within a few days of my big chop. As you can see it took a few days for my curl pattern to kind of sort itself out. The ultrasonic treatment really helped to hasten the process and it also helped with reducing frizz which is great. It is a little time consuming but it doesn’t take much longer than a regular DC with heat. I love how strong my hair feels and I barely have any breakage since I ditched the relaxed ends. I am...

I did the big Chop!

After being frustrated with transitioning for so long I decided to just go ahead and cut the relaxed ends off. I wanted to wear my hair straight during the summer but I just do not have the patience to mess with heat tools . it seems so futile to straighten my hair while sweating it out at the same time. While I’m sure there is a product out there that can prevent this, I really just wanted an excuse to finally go natural. I chopped my hair off using what I called the coil method. I pretty much made...

Hair Aniversary, mini chop and my skirmish with heat damage

Actually Its my belated transition anniversary! I am currently almost 14 months post and I took these when I was 12! I forgot about it and then I just never got around to posting it. I have been struggling to keep my relaxed ends and I had just given up on the idea that I was going to be a transitioning unicorn and retain all of my length. Out of laziness, I kept wearing my hair in a wet bun. This led to matting and tangles mainly in the center of my hair. It became so bad that I...

The Ultrasonic Challenge

Up until now I have had what I think to be a good regimen. It was low heat, kept my hair stretched and had relatively low manipulation outside of washday. Even so, I still have to battle against the breakage that ruins my hemline and gives an overall thinner look to my hair. Serial protective styling gives me similar issues and causes matting and knots even when I am very careful. After wearing a wet bun for a week recently, the center of my hair has snapped right off at the newgrowth. Up until then my hair was fairly...

Checking up on my curls at 11 months

So I haven’t seen my actual curl pattern in roughly 3 months! I’ve been wearing it straightened or in roller sets, not even bothering to check out the curls during wash day! I decided it was time to see if my curls were still healthy and intact after being straight for so long. When ever I use direct heat, I make sure to do a reconstructive protien treatment to make sure the curls snap back to normal. I wasn’t exactly sure if this was actually working though, because I haven’t actually worn it in its curly/wavy state. This week...
