Nice ‘n Curly Stretch It Straight

Simple straightforward packaging
In between smoothing treatments I stumbled upon this little beauty supply store find. The Nice n Curly Stretch it Straight promises smoother hair, is only $4.99 and has the ingredient glyoxyloyl carbocyctene (usually found in more expensive smoothing treatments). I thought to myself what do I have to lose?!? No one else had done a thorough review on it and it looked safe enough to try on my hair.
Here is the full list of ingredients: water(Aqua),shea butter(butryosperum parkii),soybean oil (glycine Soja),sodium polyacrylate(derived from SEA SALT),Ethylhexyl stearate and trideceth 6, kiwi extract (actinidia chinesis),honey,Alma oil(embelica offcinalis), papaya extract(carica), lavender extract( lavandula
angustifolia),garacilaria extract(allium sativium) glyoxyloyl carbocyctene, glyoxyloyl keratin amino acids, phenoxyethanol (and) caprylyl glycol, argan oil(arganica spinosa),almond oil (prumus amygdalus),fragrance(parfum)
The packaging was cute and simple enough for the price point but I was surprised at the color and consistency of the product! It was a thick purple custard. It reminded me of Gooey Gus from Ghost Writer! It smelled like a grape bubble gum too!

I scare kids and straighten hair for the low price of $4.99!
I washed and conditioned my hair and then slathered it on as per the directions. Just as I finished applying it to the last section, the phone rings. I have to get to work ASAP! So without thinking I just slicked back my hair into a bun and went off on my way. I was 6 months post relaxer in this picture and this products LAID my new growth like there was no tomorrow! Ironically I found this product to work this way better than the way it was intended.

Super Sleek Hair!
When I got home that day I went to blow dry the product. This was more difficult that usual because of the thickness of the product. This meant more time with direct heat blowing on my strands. Once I finished blow drying my hair felt drier than usual. Then I proceeded to flat iron. Once the flat iron touched my hair it was a WRAP! My hair became so GRITTY! It seems as if the heat of the flat iron crystallized the product in my hair. This resulted in hair that felt so disgusting and coated as if i was rolling about in sand for a few hours! Every time I touched my hair there was grit on my hands and it fell from my hair onto my clothes! I didn’t have it in my schedule to re wash and style my hair and I certainly wasn’t going to do a double heat session so I just dealt with it for a week.
Let me remind you that it felt SO GROSS. I managed to mitigate this gritty feeling by using a moisturizer but this led to my hair feeling gritty AND gummy. I had to keep it in a bun. After that long week I was excited to see the results. The struggle just had to be worth it!. Here are pics after I washed out the product

After the Rinseout

With Shampoo
My hair did look quite smoother! It layed flatter on my head too! The results only lasted for about 1-2 washes and the smoothing effect was gone. For that price I’m not complaining! I did use this again and had the same results. I ended up using the rest of the product to slick back my hair because it was quicker, less messy and did a darn tootin’ fine job at that. Overall, I would not repurchase.
If you are a naturally curly girl looking for some longevity for your straightened hair you might be considering this product. If you don’t mind a longer blow drying/flat ironing session and having to wash out the product right after flat ironing(with the possibly doing a double heat session)then go ahead and buy. But I personally think it would think your pennies would be better spent on a high quality heat protectant or smoothing treatment than this product.
