Straightening and Length Check

I decided in the middle of a heat wave it would be the perfect time to straighten my hair! I was so anxious to see my hair straight that I ignored all of my gut instincts and went ahead and straightened the whole thing! As it turns out I’m Shoulder Length! Yay! Not to shabby for just a little over a years worth of growth. I shampooed, conditioned, blowdried and flat ironed my hair. I used a mix of Arosci and Kismera products.(reviews coming soon) My hair as straight but it still started to poof up(mainly at the roots) because...

I need a new dryer!

I have had my beloved Select Pro Gold soft bonnet dryer for a little over a year. I use it pretty frequently about once a week and at times even more. I purchased this dryer because it was supposedly the best soft bonnet dryer on the market. So it was really disappointing to see if not last the test of time! We have been through good and bad but my little dryer has finally gotten on its last legs. The first thing to come off was the attachment where the hose connected to the hood. This was not too...

Salvaging a Bad Flat Ironing Session

This week I decided to try a new flat ironing cream from L’oreals new smooth intense line. I was left with VERY unexpected result : greasy ends and puffy roots. It looked as if I haven’t washed my hair in ages, even though I had just washed my hair! This is really upsetting, given the fact I had spent so much time trying to straighten my hair in the first place! I was ready to re wash my hair and just deal with my crazy transitioning hair! Instead, I decided to work with what I had and revive this...

Smooth Rollersetting on Natural / Transitioning hair

Magnetic Rollers are tricky to get the hang of! Even though they are called “magnetic” its hard to get the hair to grip on the roller. After many attempts I was able to to figure out how to keep them on my head. Even so, they were loose and my hair would frizz out of them! By the time they were dried I would have silky smooth ends with plenty of Africa at the roots. NOT the look I’m going for! After honing in my techniques using mesh rollers, I decided to apply the idea to using magnetic rollers....

Getting a Straighter Blowout on Natural / Transitioning Hair

Getting the hang of blow drying my hair took me quite some time. Sometimes it would be too poofy and very tangled around the ends. Not to mention, the end result would be as dry and crispy as a bowl of Shredded Wheat. After honing in my techniques, I find that this particular method works well for me when I want to blowdry in preparation for a flat iron. My hair ends up superbly straight compared to other methods and is much easier to flat iron. To start off, I use a hatchet blowdryer with a brush attachment. I...

Nunaat Liquid Keratin Leave In Conditioner

Back in 2011 I stumbled across this product. NUNAAT was a new company to the US at the time and they had came out with a Brazilian keratin line. This was long before they came out with their current highly promoted “Ultra Keratin Touch Kit” at home keratin treatment. The product that had captured my attention the most was the liquid keratin spray as it claimed to “effectively penetrate hair structure, realigning it and reducing hair volume”. The new green keratin ingredient sounded great and the product was formaldehyde free. The cincher was that it was about 7 bucks...

Salerm Brushing Termo Activio

Salerm is pretty well known for their salon quality products. In fact, their B5 leave in conditioner is their most raved about hair product. I tried it and was left underwhelmed. It left my hair dull and coated and I just could not bring myself to like it. This did not deter me from trying out something else from their line. I’m glad I did. Their Brushing heat protector has been apart of my rotation for over a year because it gives great results every time. I came across this product when I had gotten my first relaxer. The...

Next Generation Pressing Cream?!?

If you didn’t know, I used to press my hair for quite some time. I would blow dry, press and flat iron my coils and keep it straight for 3 weeks. I mainly used an electric pressing comb and my favorite product to press with was Apex pressing oil. I thought it was great plus it only had 3 ingredients: petroleum, lanolin and fragrance. Getting the right amount took some time but once I did I had nice bouncy results that resisted reversion. Apex is a tried and true brand. It has literally been around forever! Yet as the...

Alter Ego Spherique

Alter Ego has been around for quite some time. their products have been know to be of great quality and excellence. I have heard nothing but glowing reviews about their products such as the Linage relaxer, Garlic Hot Oil treatment and the Hasty Shine Spray. I actually had my hair texturized with the texturizer and my scalp did not burn at all. It was a very comfortable experience. So I as was on my usual prowl for new keratin products I was just excited when i found out that they came out with a new keratin treatment line. The...

In between smoothing treatments I stumbled upon this little beauty supply store find. The Nice n Curly Stretch it Straight promises smoother hair, is only $ and has the ingredient glyoxyloyl carbocyctene (usually found in more expensive smoothing treatments).
