Why sectioning your hair is important

Sectioning clips
I always section my hair in four parts, whether it be for detangling, washing, styling or whatever. When I was fully rexlaxed, I was able to get away with washing in 2 sections. I thought since my hair has been so compliant, it would be ok to try to cut corners in my regimen. Boy, did I get a wakeup call!
I shampooed my hair with a sulfate free shampoo in 2 large sections. Also I made sure to be as thorough as possible. When it was all said and done, my hair looked and felt clean. I thought: “Hey that wasn’t so bad after all!”

Nice and clean looking right?
So as I went to start applying my deep conditioner I discovered a wonderful gooey surprise lurking in the middle of my hair.

Yeah, thats really gross
It reminded me of a Cadbury egg. My hair was the milk chocolate and the residue was the nice creamy center. However, the reality was that:
There was no actual chocolate.
I needed to wash my hair 2 times to get the crap out of my hair.
Did I forget to mention NO CHOCOLATE?! :o(
Because my hair was in two big ol’ sections, the shampoo could not properly cleanse the hair and just did this.(Although I have never seen this happen with a sulfate shampoo!) When I rewashed I made sure to use 4 sections. By then my hair was nice and clean.
I did have another huge problem though: SERIOUS Tangling!
My hair is usually tangle free after a wash. With all of this extra mess going on and multiple shampooings, I needed to have a long detangling session post wash.
So for the few extra minutes I saved in the initial shampooing , I ended up loosing way more time, energy and hair. Not worth it.
Now I have a new motto when it comes to sectioning:
Personally, more than four is unnecessary but less then four leads to disastrous results. I will not be doing this again any time soon!
How many sections do you like to use?
